Event: Awareness Program cum Plantation Drive

DAV Nandraj Public School, situated at Bariatu, Ranchi is managed by the Arya Gyan Prachar Samiti. The Principal Mrs. P P Sandhu, when requested to allow Paryavaran Mitra to carry out an awareness program at school, readily agreed.
After the Tiffin break 54 students of 5th Standard has gathered in a room along with their teacher Mrs. Sengupta.
Ms. Sanghamitra Sinharay, PM Regional Coordinator (East) addressed the students and first introduced herself as well as Paryavarn Mitra to the students. She also stated the various activities Paryavaran Mitra has done earlier and also the objective of Awareness activities with students.
Students were given orientation on pollution, its effects and the required measures to be adopted by us to reduce or check pollution. They also actively took part in the discussion and when asked how they can improve school environment, they answered that plantation, cleaning should be done by the students.
Ms. Sinharay suggested various eco friendly activities students can do in school. She tried to inspire them reuse / recycle waste material by carrying out craft work with those and taught them how to make hand made papers from used newspapers or torn pages of used copies.
Students were also sensitized to plant trees. Ms. Sinharay taught them how to plant trees and take care of them; and then took them to garden, divided in 10 groups containing 5 – 6 children. Each group had one sapling. The gardener by the mean time had dug pits for planting sapling.
Each group planted one sapling and watered that one by one. They were also asked to adopt the specific plant and take care of it by turn.
Each student accepted the ides with enthusiasm and also admitted to maintain eco-friendly behaviors in school and outside. The class monitors were also given responsibility to check whether fellow students are saving resources, energy or water and the teachers were requested to monitor the process. It has also been suggested that there should be competition between the two sections on eco friendly measures taken. That includes keeping the class room clean, taking good care of plants and preparing charts, drawing etc on environment theme in order to aware other school mates. Students happily agreed to follow everything.
Paryavaran Mitra representatives thanked teachers and non teaching staffs of the school for their support. The Principal and the teachers happily admitted to take part in future programs of Paryavaran Mitra. They also requested the Regional PM Coordinator to carry out similar workshops for other students and also agreed to arrange other programs like debate etc contest among students, Rally etc.
Banners were displayed at Shiv Ganga Ghat beside the temple, where the devotees come and rest for a while before entering the temple and at the shop of our Local dealer Kanta Elec.Co., Deoghar. The shop is on the main road to station and would draw attention of all customers and passers by.
